Leaving Home

Many people will eventually leave the home they grew up in and find a home of their own. However, everyone is different. Some people leave home when they are very young, others wait till they are in their thirties, and some people live with their family all their lives.

Leaving your family home can be one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make in your life, so don't do anything without careful consideration and planning. Jobs for young people are scarce and generally not well paid, while the cost of accommodation is always rising. There is much to think about before making a decision to leave home.

When you begin to plan leaving home it is a good idea to think through the consequences and your needs. Some things to think through before deciding to leave home may include:

Do I Have Somewhere Safe to Live?

Do I Have Enough Money to Support Myself?

Who Would Support Me in Making the Move?

If you are a young adult on the verge of leaving home, our best advice it to talk to someone else about their experiences (parents, grandparents, etc.) so that you are more fully prepared for the road ahead.

Contact our office if you have any questions about preparing a household budget to help you manage your expenses in your new home.
